Engine: Service and Repair

1982 Chevrolet Chevette L4-111 1.8L DSLSECTION Service and Repair

1. Remove hood.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
3. Disconnect radiator hoses and remove radiator.
4. Disconnect engine wiring harnesses.
5. Remove air cleaner.
6. Disconnect accelerator and automatic transmission throttle valve linkage, if equipped.
7. Disconnect fuel lines and heater hoses.
8. Remove A/C compressor from mounting bracket and position aside, if equipped.
9. Remove power steering pump and bracket and position aside, if equipped.
10. Disconnect vacuum hose to master cylinder.
11. Remove engine mount nuts.
12. Raise vehicle and disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold.
13. Remove engine strut (shock type).
14. Remove flywheel dust cover.
15. On models with automatic transmission, remove converter to flywheel bolts.
16. Remove transmission rear crossmember to body bolts and bellhousing bolts.
17. Reinstall crossmember bolts.
18. Lower vehicle.
19. Remove oil filter.
20. Install engine lifting device, raise and remove engine.
21. Reverse procedure to install.
