IHKR E36 CONTROL PANEL

while the IHKR E36 control panel looks completely different than the IHKR E34 panel, all the knobs and buttons except the air distribution knob work the same way.

The air distribution knob drives a cable assembly which operates both a cam/lever mechanism and a microswitch.
- The cam/lever mechanism operates the defroster and footwell flaps directly.
- The microswitch provides a signal to the IHKR control module, which operates a stepper motor to open or close the face-vent flap.

The air distribution knob is rotated to select the desired air discharge location(s):
- Turning the knob to the 12:00 position directs all air to the defroster outlets (windshield and front door side windows).
- With the knob at the 4:00 position, all air comes from the face-vent outlets.
- With the knob at the 7:00 position, all air comes from the footwell outlets.
- At intermediate positions (between 7:00 and 12:00, for instance) air comes from both the footwells and defroster outlets in proportions based on knob position.

The air distribution knob can be rotated either clockwise or counter-clockwise, and has no end-stops.
