Windshield Projection Head Up Display Control Module, Calibrating: Procedure
The procedure is described on a John Bean Wheel Alignment Computer John Bean V3D Aligner: VAS 6331 .
The procedure may vary if using other wheel alignment computers.
Test configuration
-- Note the test requirements. Refer to TEST REQUIREMENTS .
-- Follow the measurement preparations for calibrating/adjusting the driver assistance systems. Refer to MEASUREMENT PREPARATIONS .
-- Perform the initial wheel alignment.
-- Select the button for the Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera -R242- calibration procedure in the wheel alignment computer.
Condition
- The Setting Device - Basic Set:VAS 6430/1A may not be moved on the calibration beam.
-- Make sure the calibration board is positioned in the center and is locked in place.
Condition
- Dimension -a- = dimension -b-.
-- Position the Setting Device Basic Set:VAS 6430/1A at a distance of -a- 150 cm ± 2.5 cm from the center of the wheel hub on the front wheels to the beam on the Setting Device Basic Set Setting Device - Basic Set:VAS 6430/1A .
- Measuring tape
-- Position the camera :VAS 6331/1 or :VAS 701 001/1 -1- on the right of the Setting Device - Basic Set:VAS 6430 and tighten it.
Condition
- For the next step, the alignment rack must be at the lowest level position.
SUV Vehicles
-- Enter the height value -A- between the Setting Device Basic Set Setting Device - Basic Set:VAS 6430/1A contact patch and the wheel contact surface as shown in the illustration below and enter it in the alignment computer.
Condition
- Height of the calibration board: 1, 400 mm + height value -A-.
Continuation for all vehicles
Non SUV Vehicles
-- Enter the height value -A- between the Setting Device Basic Set Setting Device - Basic Set:VAS 6430/1A contact patch and the wheel contact surface as shown in the illustration below and enter it in the alignment computer.
Condition
- Height of the calibration board: 1, 200 mm + height value -A-.
Continuation for all vehicles
-- Loosen the bolt -arrow- and place the measuring bar -1- on the floor.
-- Adjust the calibration board to the specified height -2- according to the wheel alignment computer using the crank -1-.
Condition
- If the specified height was reached -2-, then the measuring bar must be pushed slightly upward and secured with the clamping screw.
- If in later procedures the height of the calibration board must be corrected, make sure the measuring bar is touching the ground when this is being done.
-- Balance the bubble level -A- using the adjusting screw -1-.
-- Slide the Setting Device Basic Set:VAS 6430 to the side -arrows B-, until the display in the wheel alignment computer is in the tolerance range.
-- Tighten the bolts -2- and -3- by hand, to prevent the Setting Device - Basic Set:VAS 6430 from rolling away.
-- Turn the fine adjustment screw -1- until the display on the wheel alignment computer is within the tolerance range.
-- Balance the bubble level -A- using the adjusting screw -1-.
-- Level the bubble level -B- using the adjusting screws -2 and 3-.
Condition
- Check the height of the calibration board again.
Preliminary Work
-- Remove the windshield projection head up display control module cover. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL/WINDSHIELD PROJECTION (HEAD-UP DISPLAY) COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Fold down the left and right sun visors, disengage them and move them to the side.
-- Engage and center the Calibration Board for Heads-up Display AR:VAS 721 019 -1- on the sun visors center bearings -2-.
Condition
- Dimension -a- is the same for both center bearings
-- Start the program for calibrating the windshield projection head up display control module using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC ENTRIES .
-- Through the hole on the driver side of the Calibration Board for Heads-up Display AR:VAS 721 019 -1- check the position of the test pattern.
Adjustment
Positioning of the test pattern not correct.
Tip
When adjusting manually, it might be that not all of the contours of the HUD test picture can be positioned well on the Setting Device:VAS 6430 . This is due to the tolerances in the HUD system and the distortion resulting from this. In this case, primarily the elements in the center area of the picture should be as well aligned as possible. Variances with the elements in the outer area of the picture are permitted.
-- Bring the test pattern -1- as close as possible to cover with the Setting Device Basic Set:VAS 6430 -A- using the adjusting bolts -3- on the windshield projection control module -2-.
Tip
The outside bolt -3- causes the HUD test picture to move horizontally and the inside bolt -3- causes the HUD test picture to move vertically.
Continuation for all vehicles
-- After successful calibration, install the windshield projection head up display control module cover. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL/WINDSHIELD PROJECTION (HEAD-UP DISPLAY) COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
