Climatronic Control Module (J255)
• Different versions of the Climatronic control module depending on the time of production, the equipment level and vehicle version. Pay attention to the correct allocation; if this is not OK, then this can lead to DTC entries and complaints regarding the A/C system control. Refer to=> [ Climatronic Control Module, Applications ] Climatronic Control Module, Applications and Electronic Parts Catalog.
Removing
- Check coding and adaptation of Climatronic control module via the "Replace control module" function of Guided Fault Finding (in the event that the Climatronic control module is to be replaced). Check using Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS5051B) in "Guided Fault Finding."
- Switch off ignition.
- Remove the radio or radio navigation system depending on the center console grab handle.
• There are different versions of the center console grab handle (for example, with and without leather). There may not be enough space remove the leather Climatronic control module (J255) and the grab handle could get damaged.
On vehicles without Radio-Navigation system or without radio with large control panel
- Remove the trim - A - under the Climatronic control module (J255) in the instrument panel and the radio - B -).
- Carefully lift connecting rib - A - to disengage lugs - B -.
- Reach into center console from above (and below) and disengage Climatronic control module - C - from center console.
On vehicles with Radio-Navigation system or with a radio with large control panel
- Remove radio or radio navigation system.
- Remove the radio or radio navigation system depending on the center console grab handle.
• There are different versions of the center console grab handle (for example, with and without leather). There may not be enough space remove the leather Climatronic control module (J255) and the grab handle could get damaged.
- Remove the trim - B - above the Climatronic control module) in the center of the instrument panel.
• Remove the trim - A - under the Climatronic control module only after removing it.
- Carefully lift connecting rib - A - to disengage lugs - B -.
- Reach into center console from above (and below) and disengage Climatronic Control Module (J255) - C - from center console.
- Disconnect connectors - A - to - D - by pressing catches - E - and remove them.
• Climatronic Control Module is secured in center console by 4 retaining clips - F - (2 each at top and bottom).
• If Instrument Panel Interior Temperature Sensor (G56) sends incorrect measurements, check intake grille on panel of Climatronic control module (J255) (it must not be sealed) and function of Interior Temperature Sensor Fan (V42).
• When replacing an Climatronic control module, observe exact allocation (e.g. with or without controls for heated seats, etc.). Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
Installing
To install, perform the steps done during removal in reverse order. Note the following:
- On the Audi A3 Cabrio, apply a felt strip on the Climatronic control module - A - on the right and left side as illustrated - B - (dimensions: 30 x 15 x 1 mm). Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
• The felt strip - B - is applied to the area with the open surface.
- After installing, check the DTC memory of the Climatronic Control Module (J255) and erase any displayed malfunction if necessary using the Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS5051B) in "Guided Fault Finding."
- Perform a basic setting, coding, an adaptation and if necessary, the output diagnostic test on the Climatronic control module (J255) using Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS5051B) under "Guided Fault Finding".
