Ignition System Component Overview

The engine speed sensor (G28) is on the cylinder block. See - item 14 - in => [ Cylinder Block ] Engine Component Overviews.






1 Knock Sensor 1 (G61)

It is necessary to remove the thermostat first in order to remove the sensor. Refer to => [ Coolant Thermostat Housing with Thermostat ] Service and Repair.

Contacts are gold plated.

2 Knock Sensor 2 (G66)

It is necessary to remove the oil filter bracket first in order to remove knock sensor. Refer to=> [ Oil Filter Adapter ] Service and Repair.

Contacts are gold plated.

3 Ignition Coil with Power Output Stage ((N70, N127, N291, N292))

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Ignition Coils with Power Output Stages ] Service and Repair.

4 Spark Plug

Tightening specification, refer to => [ Test Data and Spark Plugs ] Test Data and Spark Plugs.

If the spark plug is replace, grease the ignition coil with power output stage. Refer to => [ Installing ] Service and Repair.

Type and electrode gap, refer to => [ Test Data and Spark Plugs ] Test Data and Spark Plugs.

Remove and install using the spark plug removal tool (3122 B).

5 Bolt

20 Nm

Tightening specification affects the function of the knock sensor.

6 Bolt

10 Nm

7 Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)

Contacts are gold plated.

8 O-ring
