2. Inspect pinions for damage, rough bearings or wear.
3. Check pinion endplay which should be 0.009-0.027 inch (0.24-0.69 mm), see image. Some units have a two pinion carrier with pinions directly opposite each other.
4. Clean, air dry and inspect front carrier to front internal gear roller thrust bearing for pitted or rough conditions.
5. Install front carrier to front internal gear roller thrust bearing assembly by placing smaller diameter race against carrier, see image. Retain with petrolatum.
