MIL:

If a component or system malfunction is detected the Engine Control Module (ECM) will illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) and record the corresponding trouble code in memory.
- When the ECM judges that the component or system has returned to normal the ECM turns off the MIL.
- If the ignition switch is turned OFF and then ON again the ECM will not illuminate the MIL until the irregularity is detected again.

Under normal conditions the MIL will be lit for 2.5 seconds immediately after the engine is started indicating the light is operational.

NOTE: When the ignition timing adjustment terminal is shorted to ground the ECM will store Trouble Code 36 in memory and illuminate the MIL.
