SYMPTOM/CONDITION:


Subject vehicles that exhibit the need for improved Automatic Idle Speed control consistency likely require SMEC/SBEC replacement. The replacement engine controllers have been superseded to new controllers offering improved engine Automatic Idle Speed control. The following diagnosis and repair procedures will avoid unnecessary replacement of other components.

DIAGNOSIS:


Using a DRB II tester and the appropriate diagnostic procedure manual, verify that all vehicle engine systems are functioning as designed (no fault codes are present). If all systems are functioning correctly, proceed with the following replacement.

1. Replace the engine controller (SBEC) with the appropriate unit as called out in PARTS REQUIRED.
