The Check Engine lamp will be illuminated for approximately 3 seconds after the ignition switch has been placed in the On position as a bulb check.

If incorrect or no signals are received by the Single Board Engine Controller (SMEC) from various sensors, the PCM will illuminate the Check Engine lamp. After diagnosing and servicing the fuel injection system or emission related systems, the PCM memory will be cleared after approximately 50 to 100 ignition key on-off cycles.
