Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Use care when handling the coolant sensor. Damage to the coolant sensor will affect the operation of the fuel control system.




1. Drain the coolant system to below the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling Cooling System Draining and Filling.
2. Reposition the air cleaner assembly from the top of the engine.
3. If equipped with a automatic transaxle, disconnect the ECT sensor electrical connector (1).




4. If equipped with a manual transaxle, disconnect the ECT sensor electrical connector (1).




5. Remove the ECT sensor.

Installation Procedure

Caution: Replacement components must be the correct part number for the application. Components requiring the use of the thread locking compound, lubricants, corrosion inhibitors, or sealants are identified in the service procedure. Some replacement components may come with these coatings already applied. Do not use these coatings on components unless specified. These coatings can affect the final torque, which may affect the operation of the component. Use the correct torque specification when installing components in order to avoid damage.

Caution: Use care when handling the coolant sensor. Damage to the coolant sensor will affect the operation of the fuel control system.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

1. Install the ECT sensor.

Tighten the sensor to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).




2. If equipped with a manual transaxle, connect the ECT sensor electrical connector (1).




3. If equipped with a automatic transaxle, connect the ECT sensor electrical connector (1).
4. Position the air cleaner assembly to the top of the engine.
5. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling Cooling System Draining and Filling.
