Shop wants ( for a brake fluid flush on my 2017 Accord. Is this actually necessary? Brakes feel fine. Car has 65k miles and I don't think the fluid has ever been changed.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic — it absorbs moisture through the rubber lines over time. That moisture lowers the boiling point from ~400°F to potentially under 300°F. In heavy braking (mountain driving, towing, panic stop) that moisture boils, creates gas bubbles, and you get a spongy or completely dead pedal. At 65k and 8+ years, yes it needs changing.

You can DIY this for about . Get a bottle of Honda DOT 3 or any good DOT 3/4 fluid, a turkey baster, clear vinyl tubing, and a helper to pump the pedal. Takes about 30 minutes. SpotOnAuto probably has the full procedure for your Accord. Way better than paying (.
